Our Mission

We believe teaching reading, writing, speaking, and listening is never neutral—it’s about power, identity, and belonging. Our work is grounded in five core literacy concepts—foundational skills, meaning making, effective expression, and language development—but we go further. We take a critical literacy stance, helping future teachers and their students read both the word and the world, asking whose voices are present, whose are missing, and why. We center culturally sustaining pedagogy to ensure that students’ languages, literacies, and cultures are not just acknowledged, but actively nurtured. We uphold linguistic justice, treating every language and dialect as a source of brilliance, not a barrier.
